Advanced Technique in
landscape Monotype
Instructor: Cara Gonier

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

In this one day intensive class,
Cara will help demystify creating a monotype landscape to achieve a true collectible fine art print.
Appropriate for respiratory sensitive people as no oil paints or solvents are used in this class.
Class offered in gelatin plate and etching press options and will be indicated in the course registration

What is a Monotype anyway?
A monotype is essentially ONE of a kind: mono is a Latin word which means ONE and type means kind.
Therefore, a monotype is one printed image which does not have any form of matrix.
This is different from a monoprint that has some form of basic matrix that is repeatable.
Monotypes are truly one of a kind, unique pieces of artwork.

What you will learn:
Printmaking terms, techniques and tools
color mixing
proper use of pigments & layering
how to approach a landscape composition in a loose painterly way and more...

•This workshop covers advanced techniques of paint chemistry, why and how to layer specific colors to achieve painterly and atmospheric effects.

•Learn to produce collectible works of art on a portable etching press.

•The development of a fine art monotype takes some patience.
It is, however, guaranteed to be a very satisfying and rewarding process!

•We will be working with pigments that have low/ No VOC’s to encourage an allergy reduced environment.
NO solvents, rubbing alcohol or other materials that give off strong VOC’s will be used during this class)

All are welcome.
